Melody is a series of tones that are sounded one by one, which are formed from a scale or can be called scales. Learning guitar melodies means that knowledge of scales is a must and very absolute. Because of these scales, a guitarist can develop his guitar playing skills or improvise solo melodies or commonly called licks.
Lick and riff have almost the same meaning. Lick means an improvised form of riff. Whereas riff is a melody pattern in a particular scale. Currently there are many scales. The number can be up to hundreds, but that number can increase as time goes by. When viewed in general, the tone can be divided into two, namely diatonic scales and synthetic scales. Diatonic scales consist of major and minor diatonic scales. For synthetic tone ladder consists of pentatonic, whole tone, diminish and many more.
Understanding the scale can make it easier for us to play melody. Basically, melody is a game of tones in a particular scale. When we play a melody, we can press any tone we want, provided that the tone is still in that particular tone. The melody game will sound harmonious and not boring with "tone lines" or certain melodic patterns or known as riffs.
